Does the 137 need additional electronic components to install in a system such as a power transformer as shown in 2.0 Sample Input Wiring Diagram? Is there a discussion of types of transformers etc in the forum?  Thanks

Yes, you must supply your own transformer to work with the PMDX-137
as shown in Section 2 of the manual.
