PMDX-126, PMDX-107 with ESS on a LSi C100 VFD
« on: February 23, 2017, 12:17:05 AM »
Hi guys,

Anyone out there has used the LSi C100 VFD (LSLV0022C100-1N) with a PMDX-126/107 and can share your connections from -107 to VFD?

I figured something like this (see image):

PMDX-107            LSi C100 VFD
AGnd =====>  CM (Input signal common)
AOut =====>   AI (Freq. Setting Voltage signal input: 0-10V)
ARef  =====>  ???
COM =====>   CM (Input signal common)
Fwd Run ===>  P1 (FX: Forward Run)
Rev Dir ====>  P2  (RX:Reverse Run) Optional (is this needed on a cnc router?

220 single phase power to R(L1) and T(L3), Ground to chassis
Spindle Motor to U,V,W, and ground.

Search for LSLV C100 Series User's Manual

On PMDX-107 set the 10V dip switch (#6)
On PMDX-126 - not sure if I have to set to "Run in Normal Mode with Charge Pump", Config 1 open.

Anyone? Just need assistance verifying the control signals to VFD from PMDX-107 look right or not.

Sorry, somehow this thread was not generating notifications to the admin account.

Your list of connections is correct for the items you listed.

Your ARef on the PMDX-107 should connect to the VR terminal on the VFD.

"Run in Normal Mode with Charge Pump" setting will depend on how you have your
system configured. If you are running from a parallel port on your PC we recommend
that you configure Mach3 to generate a "charge pump" on parallel port pin 17 and
configure both the PMDX-126 and the PMDX-107 to look for the "charge pump" to
be valid before allowing operation. Turning off the "charge pump" requirement
temporarily may be useful while debugging.

If you are using a pulse engine such as the PMDX-411 or a SmoothStepper to
run your system, then the "charge pump" function is not needed as a safety
interlock to prevent the parallel port from triggering the system during the
boot process of the PC.

Is it necessary to enable multi-mode on JP2 on the PMDX-126? I was reading a old document sent to me by my CNC supplier. They used the PMDX-126/PMDX-107 some time ago and in their documentation they state to enable multi-mode on JP2 also to enable charge pump. I dont have any devices connected to the on board relays on the -126.

If you are using Pin 1 or Pin 14 for some purpose other than controlling
the relays, then you may wish to remove the jumper to keep the relay
from chattering. Otherwise it will not matter.

Im a bit confused on this charge pump and JP2 multi-mode thing.

So lets say that I do enable Normal Mode with Charge Pump,  and JP2 multi-mode, and also enable the Charge Pump flag in MACH3 with port 1 pin 17.
Do I need a High/low signal going to pin 17? How do I generate the signal is there is no actual charge pump?

Using multi-mode and using a charge pump are separate issues.

If you set up the PMDX-126 for Normal Mode with Charge Pump, then you
must supply a square wave signal on pin 17 of the first port of the PMDX-126
to indicate that the control computer is active. This will be done in the Ports
and Pin configuration if you are using Mach3 with a parallel port. If you are
using a motion controller with Mach4, then the motion controller will need
to be configured to provide that signal on pin 17.

The JP2 jumper simply determines what signal controls the small relay on
the PMDX-126. It can be set to use pin 14 from the first  parallel port. This
would be fine, except that you are using a PMDX-107 and that also uses
pin 14 of the first parallel port as its spindle direction signal. This is why you
had been advised by CNC Router Parts to move the jumper to the other
position. That position will the relay to be controlled by either pin 14 of the
second parallel port or by the Outputs Enabled status. See the chart on
page 11 of the users manual.

Ah gotcha. I read that info in the chart on page 11 several times, I believe its sinking in now now. the port 1 and port 2 keeps throwing me off. I forget the ESS provides dual parallel ports.

So if using a motion controller (Warp9 ESS) with MACH3, will I also have to configure the ESS to provide the signal on pin 17?

If you enable the Charge Pump function on the PMDX-126, then
yes you must configure your system to supply it on pin 17 of the
first port.

In the case of the SmoothStepper and Mach3, you configure it
in Mach3 and the SmoothStepper picks up the information.

In reality, you do not need a Charge Pump because its main
purpose was to protect the machine controller from bogus
parallel port signals while the PC is booting and Windows is
starting up. This only happens with a real parallel port in the
PC. The SmoothStepper will not have that issue.

Thank you, sir. My apologies for being repetitive in my questioning.
