Title: LMS spindle control board
Post by: Sshire on September 01, 2016, 10:22:21 AM
I'm in the midst of a LMS X2 conversion

Is it possible to use this spindle controller board from LMS with my PMDX-340?

If so, what do I need to do?

Thanks,

We have a board, the PMDX-407-S, that can be added externally
to provide variable speed spindle control with the PMDX-340.

This board requires a reference voltage from the spindle driver
or its interface. The LMS upgrade kit board can supply 5 volts
for this purpose.

This board provides an output that can control the Start/Stop
input to the LMS upgrade board, but does not provide any
on-board support for reversing the spindle. The PMDX-407-S
uses the pin 16 signal from the PMDX-340, so the pin 14
signal could be used for direction if desired. This could be
a direct connection if my assumption that the upgrade kit
provides electrical isolation is correct.

The suitability of using 5 volts as the reference to generate
the 0 - 10 volt AVI signal is unknown. The adjustment pot
on the upgrade kit may have enough range that this is not
a problem. If it is, then we should be able to use the +12
volts from the PMDX-340.

Thanks, Steve
The spindle reverse isn't really an issue. The only time I could see using it is for tapping and I use a Tapmatic head which reverses itself.
Once I get everything running (the CNCFusion stuff is coming today) I'll move on to spindle control.
