Slaved Axis Homing - Issue
« on: March 23, 2015, 12:29:54 PM »
422 Smart Bob USB

I installed the latest FW and Mach4 yesterday, and then homed the system. The issue I am having is the slaved gantry axis tries to home in opposing directions.
Instead of reversing the slave, it racks the gantry in opposing directions.

Am I missing a configuration option for this?

Mach4 and our plug-in make no assumptions about the mechanical configuration
of your machine, even when you ask for slaved motors.

For a gantry with rack and pinion drive and a slaved motor, you will need to
tell the software that you want one motor reversed.

You can do this in our plug-in using the Mach4 functions Config>Plugins> and then
click on the Configure button to the right of the line showing PMDX-SmartBOB-USB.

In the PMDX-SmartBOB dialog that pops up, select the Motor Config tab.

In the chart for Step/Dir Configuration find your slaved motor and click on button for
Normal or Reversed under the DIR Polarity heading as required for the slave motor.

The same reversing selection will also appear in the Mach4 menus under Config>Mach
and select the Motors tab. You need to select the slave motor in the column on the
right and then Check or Uncheck the box labeled Reverse near the bottom right of
the dialog box.

Both the PMDX dialog and the Mach dialog manipulate the same setting and changing
one will change the other. This is done to avoid having to guess which one to use.

The strange part is only the homing has an issue - all other operations are working fine (jogging, and several cutting runs).
Is this setting different?

Oh, that is different!

The homing with slaved axis was tested on a machine that was
not really a gantry machine and we may have missed a critical
check in the code. Stay tuned......

This is a bug in the general homing code, not specifically the slaved axis support.  Any motor with the "Reversed" box checked in the "Motors" configuration tab will home in the wrong direction.  We will post a fix for this by tomorrow morning.
