I have a LabVolt 5600 which I am retrofitting I am trying to figure out how to connect the D&M Computing Chopper Driver.
There are four wires coming off the driver they are:
A yellow wire goes to a terminal on the driver labelled "D"
A grey wire goes to a terminal on the driver labelled "C"
A black wire goes to a terminal on the driver labelled "-"
A red wire with is goes to a terminal on the driver "+"
+ is 5VDC I am not sure how to connect the - wire should I connect that to the machine ground? I Think PCground wont be connected on this machine to anything since I am using a UC400ETH to connect to the pc. I think - might be the neutral side of a 5V circuit.

This is a total SWAG since I know nothing about the motor driver board you have. But... I am presuming that the 5V wire you mention is NOT providing the voltage/current for the motor itself, but rather is used for the step/direction interface. If that is indeed the case, and there is a separate connector/wires for motor power, then I would suggest connecting the PMDX-126's "PC+5V" to the driver's "+" wire, the "PCgnd" to the "-" wire. I am guessing the step and direction inputs are the other two wires, "D" and "C", but it is anyone's guess which is which. So pick a connection - map one to "step" and one to "dir". See what happens when you try to jog that motor. If it moves back and forth, you are done. If you get one "click" each time you attempt to jog back and forth, swap the step and direction pins and try again.

Ok that makes sense but I am not fully sure what PC ground is are you sure I should connect it to that and not just to the system ground? I saw someone else do a similar conversion but with a different breakout board and they just grounded it to the machines back panel. The four wires are for the interface cable that does step and direction there is a separate power connector.

Yes, you NEED the "PC" ground on the step/dir connections, otherwise they won't work. The PC ground is *the* ground reference for the step/dir signals and for the 5V on those PMDX-126 connectors. Your motor driver may or may not have the step/dir ground internally connected to the motor power ground (it shouldn't, but some do). But that doesn't change the step/dir wiring needs.
