PMDX-411 and extension cables
« on: April 02, 2018, 02:57:23 PM »
I see a 6' USB extension cable is offered (cool).
Question: can a 4 foot long DB25 cable be used between the
PMDX-411 and the stepper driver? (or will this mess up signal timing?)
((machine specific stepper driver for a Sable 2015; checked pin outs for
both sides and they match for my purposes)).
Thanks!

A 4 foot parallel (DB25) cable should not be a problem, the PMDX-411 mimics a PC's parallel port including drive strength.

Well, it shouldn't be an issue as long as it is specified as a printer cable or you know for a fact that the cable connects all of the pins from one DB25 connector to the identical pins on the other.  Back in the days of external modems, there were cables with DB25 connectors that LOOKED just like printer cables but were instead serial cables and had connections to different pins in order to work with the serial interface on modems.  That *shouldn't* be an issue any more as I haven't seen any of those cables for quite a while.  But check just to be sure.
